The American Kennel Club offers two main types of registration.  One is called limited registration, and the other is called full registration.  Full AKC registration means you have breeding rights and any puppies that come from your dog, when mated to another full AKC registered dog can be registered with the AKC. Most reputable breeders only offer limited registration on their puppies unless special arrangements have been made with the breeder.

At Rocky River Retrievers, we offer our puppies with limited registration.  However in some circumstances we will allow for full registration if certain conditions are met including OFA hip and elbow testing, and EIC, CNM, and PRA-prcd genetic testing. Once these tests have been completed, we can upgrade your puppies registration for full for a $500 fee.

If you are interested in a full registration puppy please be sure to mention that upfront so that we can help you understand how the process works.

The American Kennel Club (AKC) is the country’s biggest purebred dog registration, and enrolling a dog there has many advantages. For dog owners who want to make sure their dog is a purebred and has a traceable genealogy, registering with the AKC is a crucial step.

The ability to prove a dog’s pedigree is one of the main advantages of AKC registration. An authentic AKC pedigree that details a dog’s ancestry for up to five generations can be obtained by owners who register their dogs with the organization. Breeders may find this knowledge useful in their efforts to discover desired features and steer clear of potential hereditary problems.

AKC registration also enables canines to participate in AKC-approved competitions. These occasions include, among others, agility competitions, obedience tests, and conformation displays. For dogs and their owners, participating in these competitions can be a joyful and gratifying experience. It can also assist to highlight a dog’s breed-specific skills and qualities. Dogs competing in these events must be registered with the AKC and adhere to certain breed-specific requirements in order to be eligible.

For owners who want to demonstrate the caliber of their dog’s lineage, AKC registration can be useful. A panel of breed specialists has examined dogs before they are registered with the AKC, determining that they satisfy particular breed-specific requirements. Owners who want to sell or breed their dogs may find this information helpful because it can be used to determine the dog’s worth and desirability.

In addition to these advantages, AKC registration offers dog owners access to a variety of tools and services. Access to AKC events, training and care informational resources, and price breaks on pet-related goods and services are a few of these. Also, AKC registration gives owners a sense of belonging and a way to interact with other dog owners who share their passion for purebred dogs.
